Peg Leg Porker - Nashville, TN
BBQ had to be on my bucket list as soon as I knew I was headed to Nashville. I know, you Nashvillians are probably saying its hot chicken that you need to have. I don't disagree necessarily, but I'm not a huge fan of "hot" anything. Don't fret - it's not that I'll never try it. Just not this time. Instead this time I went to Peg Leg Porker and if this place isn't on your bucket list add it right now. You're in for some delicious BBQ and sides to match!
Someone asked me what the difference was between Nashville BBQ and Texas BBQ. While I find (found) both to be delicious in their own right, there was a difference. Texas BBQ depends on where in Texas you're referring to. After all it's a huge state. Generally speaking I would say it's more saucy and wet. Nasville BBQ is less about the sauce and all about the rub, as you can see.
I ordered the half rack of ribs and it was fall-off-the-bone tender. The dry rub added a nice smokey and sweet flavor overall. There was a bottle of BBQ sauce available but it definitely wasn't the star. The ribs stood up on their own based on how it was treated and rubbed down.
But sometimes it can be all about the sides and Peg Leg delivered on that front. The mac and cheese was super ooey gooey cheesy and it stayed warm and hot til I finished it all. The cole slaw was sweet but mostly tangy with lots of crunch from the veggies. They were both great sides to already great ribs.
Peg Leg Porker is located Downtown in an area known as The Gultch. I will say I was amazed to see how much new construction was going on in Nashville. I knew it was a growing city, but didn't realize just how much it's actually growing. If you're a transplant or a local, you should give Peg Leg Porker a try.
Let me know what you think the difference is between Nashville and Texas BBQ.
