Timeless Cafe & Cocktails - Lubbock, TX
Although I travel a lot for my day job, I do enjoy finding new places when I'm at my homebase. It had been a while since having brunch with my numero uno local foodie adventurer, The Whirley Bird. Since we were both in town we decided to meet up and try a new place, Timeless Cafe & Cocktails. I was so glad we did because they had a unique menu filled with delicious and tasty food. Timeless Cafe is certainly a place you want to put down on your brunch short list. They are also open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday and I'm already going to have to go back because those menu options also sound wonderful.
We ended up having a three course brunch which included appetizers and desserts. For the apps, we shared the Bourbon Meatballs and the Sweet Potato Cakes. The meatballs were slow cooked and made with pork and served with a honey bourbon sauce. They were delicious, tender and juicy, especially because they were browned along with being cooked low and slow. The sauce had a nice balanced sweetness between the honey and the bourbon. It was the perfect dipping sauce. The Sweet Potato Cakes were fried and made with sweet potatoes and corn. The corn was a nice addition because it added a fresh sweetness along with a good crunch. The garlic dipping sauce was delightful as well.
The brunch menu is simple with just 8 items to choose from. However, based on the two that we ordered it doesn't seem like you can go wrong with any of them. I had the Brunch Pizza, which you can order with your choice of chorizo, bacon or sausage. It was a great pizza because it was topped with a fried egg. I broke the yoke and it was deliciously runny . I would have liked more of that for sure! The other thing I LOVED about the pizza was the honey maple syrup that was drizzled along the edges. It added a surprising yet welcoming sweetness to each bite. I wanted to keep eating it until I was full. The Whirley Bird ordered the Brunch Tacos, which also come with your choice of meat. She opted for the chorizo and it was mixed with eggs, potatoes and an avocado salsa. The chorizo was not too spicy so I was able to sneak in a bite -- not really because we always order more than enough to share. The potatoes were nicely cooked, tender and well seasoned.
Although we could have stopped there, as soon as co-owner Stephen Locascio mentioned dessert we knew we had to order one....or two. I mean there were two of us after all. We shared the espresso creme brûlée and a blueberry and lemon pastry. The wonderful thing about dessert at Timeless Cafe is that it changes often. They have a pastry chef that makes their desserts and brings it by for you to try. The creme brûlée was delicious and smooth after breaking through the caramelized sugar. A nice balance with the espresso, although my brunch pal might disagree. She does not enjoy the taste of coffee so it was not to her liking. However, she LOVED the blueberry and lemon pastry so there was truly something for everyone. I did too. It was made with a creme filling that was oooey gooey with whole blueberries tucked inside. The fresh burst of blueberries balanced out the lemony flavor.
Overall we really enjoyed our brunch time at Timeless Cafe & Cocktails. Along with their great menu filled with tasty food, they also offer a fairly extensive drink menu. The service is fantastic so you really can't go wrong. I have plans to come back and try more of their menu. I recommend you give them as try as well.
