Since moving to the panhandle of Texas I long for some really good sushi. When I do try sushi in town, the sushi can be fairly tasty, but it’s always because I expect worse and to be honest I never order that’s actually raw. So whenever I travel I try to find a good sushi place. Tomodachi is a cozy restaurant with a big sushi bar located in north Austin. It’s had a very nice ambience and the service was very spot on. I wanted to start an appetizer, but everything was spicy. I asked my server about what to order that wasn’t too spicy and she suggested the sautéed oysters that were off the menu. Being the foodie adventurer that I am how could I resist ordering something as elusive as an off menu item. And I was not steered wrong. It was crispy and seasoned very well. As far as sushi goes, It’s reassuring when my server tells me I picked a great choice. And I most certainly did. The Austin roll is made with calamari tempura, ell, yum yum (a scallop salad), ahi and rice paper. It was so good I was able to enjoy every bite of it without any soy sauce.
