The Rusty Pelican - Tampa, FL
Since I had the opportunity to have Sunday brunch I researched (more so than usual) a good brunch place to take my MIL. I landed on The Rusty Pelican. I didn’t realize this was actually a chain restaurant and my MIL remembers seeing one in California. The Sunday brunch is a buffet that includes every possible brunch item you could imagine.
I started with a freshly made egg white omelet filled with veggies, a side of bacon, slices of prime rib and fried potatoes. Yes, that is what I started with…It was very tasty and how could it not be. The omelet was just about the only healthy thing I had. The bacon was perfectly crispy and the prime rib very tender. The fried potatoes did not have as much seasoning as I would liked.
There was absolutely no refusing the Belgium waffles served with a side of whiskey butter and maple syrup. The waffles were fluffy and how could anything with some melted whiskey butter taste anything but amazing. We did also try to be healthy with a side of fruit, but that’s about as far that healthy went this morning. The grilled pork skewers was probably my least favorite dish. The pork was a little on the dry side.
And the view was just about amazing. If you get there early enough you can grab a window seat and have a great view of the bay.
And for dessert I almost missed the mini crème brule at the enormous dessert table. I also grabbed some cannoli and an apple fritter. The crème brule was amazing and if I remember correctly I may have had two. But by the time dessert happened I was so stuff with all the food we had already eaten.
I think the most fun part of the buffet was the make your own bloody mary bar. I had just the bloody mary mix, which I tend enjoy every now and then. My MIL took the bloody mary bar to the next level with her concoction. I think she put just about anything and everything you could put in the bloody mary and it turned out pretty decent.
And of course I couldn’t just end with the dessert buffet. Almost forgot about another round of the Belgium waffles but this time with vanilla ice cream as the topping. I think I could only take a couple bites as I was heading in a food coma, but it was an awesome couple of bites. Again with the warm and fluff waffle.
