Souper Market - Lakewood, OH (Cleveland)

On any cold night in Cleveland you can depend on a great bowl of soup from Souper Market. This was my second trip here and I will continue to come back because of their awesome selection of homemade soups. They have four locations, this one in Lakewood plus ones in Midtown, Ohio City and Kamm's Corners. They have weekly specials along with their staples. I tried the Mulligatawny soup this night and it was really good.

I've made Mulligatawny soup before and it's usually made with chicken broth, veggies and curry powder. I've added shredded apples into it to add some sweetness, but that can vary from recipe to recipe. My first introduction to Mulligatawny soup was actually from the ever famous Soup Nazi Seinfeld episode. Hilarious!

Souper Market's version is vegan and gluten free. Although it can be spicy, this had a nice subtle heat. It also had carrots and onions that were crisp tender -- cooked through, but still had a good bite to it. It had chopped chilies throughout, but they were mild. I like to use Anaheim chilies in my recipe so I believe they used that or another mild chili. There was also that added sweetness. It balanced out the smokiness from the spices they used. It's served with a side of crusty bread that excellent for dipping. I've also had the Chicken Paprikash during my first visit, which is usually a saucy dish that they've turned into a fantastic soup. It's one of their top sellers and delicious as well.

You should definitely pick up a bowl or two of soup from Souper Market. It doesn't have to be a cold night, but a cold night does make it taste that much better.
