Mitchell’s Fish Market - Woodmere, OH
For my entree I had the Shang Hai Seafood Sampler, which was described in the menu as:
Fresh Atlantic salmon, scallops and shrimp, steamed with ginger and scallions and served with sticky rice, sesame spinach and rice wine soy sauce
I thought it was a little strange to eat rice with seafood. I don’t recall the last time I’ve had that combo, but it was very tasty. The rice wine soy sauce had a very mellow flavor that wasn’t too overwhelming. I normally shy away from scallops as the first couple of times I’ve had them they were overcooked and far too rubbery. This steamed version was perfect and the best part of the dish. The julienned ginger was a little strong for me and at the risk of sounding like a Chopped judge I will way that I am not a huge fan of inedible garnish.
I decided to be adventurous and try Mitchell’s Fish Market in Beachwood. It was still a cold Cleveland winter night, but what could be better than some good seafood. I started off with the clam chowder and it was perfect. It had the right amount of clams and the right amount of creaminess. Nothing irritates me more than eating clam chowder that has little to no clam in it. After all, I did order a clam chowder.
And of course I had dessert. How can one look at something called the Sharkin Pie and say no. Lucky for me they offered a mini Sharkfin Pie perfect for a table for one. It did not disappoint with the butter fudge ice cream layered with peanut butter, fudge and topped on an oreo cookie crust. I did have to let the dessert thaw a little bit so I could enjoy that perfect bite with a little bit of everything on it.
