Giuseppe's Steel City Pizza - Port Orange, FL (Daytona Beach)
Who would have thought you could get Pittsburg in the middle of Florida? Thanks to Giuseppe's you not only get Steel City in Florida, but you also get a huge selection of truly fantastic food. I'm so glad The Prof's friend, aka Dynamic Entry, told us about this place and that we worked up an appetite.
Giuseppe's is truly an experience from the moment you walk. There is no mistaking that you're in Steel City. The walls are lined with anything and everything Steelers related, including jerseys, flags and portraits. On one wall there's even a giant mural that's an in-scale replica of the seats at the stadium, complete with The Terrible Towel waving throughout the crowd. You couldn't help but feel like you were part of the action. And no worry Pirates fan, there's also a fair share of baseball memorabilia included. I'm neither a huge football or baseball fan, but I could get into atmosphere and truly enjoyed every minute of it. Not to mention the service was super friendly. We were greeted and seated right away.
Although Giuseppe's is probably best known for their pizza - it's in the name after all - Dynamic Entry highly recommended the Extreme Sandwiches. We ordered the meatball extreme. First of all, it's huge! I guess that's why it's extreme. But that's not the only reason. The flavor was extreme as well. The bread is homemade grilled garlic bread and it was grilled to perfection. It had crusty edges and that perfect buttery garlicky flavor, but was soft at the same time. The meatballs themselves were a fairly decent size too and was served with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. You'll definitely have to come with an appetite for this bad boy, but you'll love every bite of it.
The Prof went the The Sliders, which were smaller versions of their sub sandwiches. You get two sliders plus fries and a pickle (which you also get with the extreme sandwich). He ordered the cheese steak sliders and these were absolutely delicious as well. The bread was again homemade and a ciabata style. I've had plenty of cheese steak sandwiches and this definitely ranks up there as one of the best. The meat was tender and had that must have char that gives it a flavor boost. It had a perfect amount of onions to go along with the melted mozzarella.
Knowing we'd all be sharing some of the goodness already ordered I opted for a Super Bowl. First of all, love the play on words. But most of all, loved the bread bowl. The soup itself was fantastic. I had the Wedding Soup, which typically has pasta, spinach and meatballs. This was no exception and is the most flavorful wedding soup I have ever had. The highlight though had to be the bread bowl. The top of the bread bowl was cut out and buttered. I was in carb heaven with my bread bowl top in one hand and the soup spoon in the other. Our server even commented that I was eating it exactly as it should be eaten and it was awesome.
Giussepe's has been around for over 30 years and has been family owned and operated since their doors opened. You get a strong sense of family as well as Steeler pride as soon as you walk in the door. But even if you're not a Steeler fan, you most certainly have to be a fan of good food so this is a definite must try if you're in the Daytona Beach area.
