Cafe Karibo - Fernandina Beach, FL
An eatery with “eclectic cuisine” on the front menu has to be good, right? What I really wanted to try was the pan seared sea scallops with a mushroom cream sauce. Simple yet enticing, I know. That’s exactly what I thought. But it appears lady luck had something different in mind for me. As I was enjoying one of numerous appetizers on our table, my permanent crown decided it was time to chip. I was fine for the time being, no pain and still had the whole crown. However, the rest of the evening I had to be quite mindful of what I ate, being careful not to chew anything. As a foodie, you can understand how avoiding anything that requires chewing kind of puts a damper on things. But I was not going to let this spoil my adventure.
I ended up having a bowl of the chicken pot pie soup. It was rather delicious. It had slices of chicken breast nicely seasoned and not dry at all. I know I’m eating soup, but I’ve had chicken soup where somehow the chicken is drier than death valley. The broth was also chock full of flavor and was also nicely seasoned. The “pie” part of the soup was chunks of rustic white bread torn to pieces. That worked out wonderfully seeing as how chewing was not an option.
Being the foodie adventurer that I was, I was also not going to let my current dental situation get in the way of enjoying some creme brûlée. Delicious and tasty. Almost missed taking a photo, but snagged one in time to show off the sugary crust.
