Blue Sky Texas - Lubbock, TX

I am always on the lookout for my next burger fix. When my father-in-law happened to be in town he fell in LOVE with Blue Sky Texas and had to go more than once while he was here...and he was only here for a couple of days! I understand why he would want to go back to Blue Sky again and again. It ranks as one of the best burgers I like in Lubbock and you should find your way to one of their two locations in town. I promise you'll be in for a tasty treat.

Blue Sky burgers, fries and onion rings

Locations near 98th and Quaker and 4th and Indiana

We each ordered our own burger and side of fries. I also wanted to try their onion rings so The Prof and I actually shared a half and half order of fries and onion rings.

According to their website, the burgers are never frozen and the buns are baked fresh daily. The fries are also hand-cut and anything breaded, like their onions rings, are hand battered made to order. The burger is also made from ground chuck.

I can attest that all of the above amount to quite the delightful burger. I will tell you layer by layer what I love about a Blue Sky burger. And all you burger connoisseurs know that it's each layer put together is what makes a mouthwatering burger.

The bun was nicely grilled and had soft and fluffy texture. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger and the bacon was -- well, it's bacon -- it was fantastic, perfectly crispy and added a nice salty bite. The cheese was melted all over the patty. A good burger must have melted cheese! The burger itself was thick, juicy and moist. It was cooked medium well and not over done whatsoever. I'm fairly certain I ate every single bite and I know I don't normally do that unless it's a burger from In-N-Out. The fries were golden and crispy on the outside while being pillowy soft on the inside. The onion rings had the perfect onion-to-batter ratio and seasoned well. I also tried the sweet potato fries on a another visit and they were also tasty. Overall, everything was fantastic and I can totally see why my FIL loved this place.

Blue Sky Texas is a sit-down casual burger restaurant. You'll order at the counter and then wait for your number to be called while all the magic happens. You'll find lots of table for parties big or small, especially at their new location off 4th Street. The parking at the 98th St. location can be tricky, especially on a busy Friday or Saturday night (they are closed on Sunday). However, you can order ahead and pick up at their drive-thru window and it's a great way to get a good burger for dinner. I did just that the other day and The Prof and I had a burger with all the fixins ready to go in no time.
